Beautiful Booksellers

These beautiful documents are from a Manchester bookseller on Deansgate, at the the turn of the century (1800s to 1900s).  So many gorgeous details.  Look at that scroll, and the signatures, and the font...oh my!

Busy Weekend!

I had such an amazing time at the Handmade Christmas Fair! My stall buddies Claire and Kate were lovely, we had super nice customers and friends visit...and now it's done I'm missing the busyness and bussle of it all.  Though it is nice to just sit with a cup of for tea for bit.

New Paper Projects

I've been working on a couple of new things, and they got great feedback at this weekend's market, yay!

The first thing I've been working on are these collage cards using vintage pieces and fancy paper.  Each is a complete one off, and I love them.

In addition to the cards I have collage packs. I've had such fun putting these packs together, hope you like them.

I also have these (super popular) mystery bags of jewellery.  Each contains 3 items, one of which will always be a necklace. The rest might be made up of brooches, earrings, bracelets...ooh how exciting!

Summer Postcard Club

Everyone likes good post days!  So the lovely Marceline organised a Summer Postcard Club, where people signed up to swap postcards.  I've loved watching my little notes come through the letter box and I hope everyone involved had as much fun as I did.

Putting the final touches to my postcards for my swapees.

The first postcard that arrived was this fab vintage style tea themed one.  Perfect!

More tea related ones followed.  How well they know me!  I love the little tea cup hidden in the 'A' of the graphic one, and the French postcard has a cat too.  J'adore!

Cute details on the back of the cards; Totoro, teacups and a little fox.

This watermelon on the beach made me smile.  Note the little panda-man sunning himself.

Grrrr!  Vintage bear postcard with baby panda at the centre.

Search #summerpostcardclub on Twitter and Instagram for more cute swaps.

With thanks to Marceline; Heather; Nikki; Claire; Jo and Rosanna. x

Lomas and Lomas in Hayfield Village

My newest stockist is the lovely Lomas and Lomas, and this weekend saw the opening of their beautiful shop in the pretty village of Hayfield.  So I took a trip out into the hills on a sunny day to take a peek...spolier, it was gorgeous!

Lomas and Lomas specialise in modern country interiors, which translates as beautiful prints on cushions and lightshades, stunning photos and yummy candles.

The shop is right next to the old village post post office.  I loved the details of this old post box and stamp machine.

The stream behind the shop.  Home to a family of ducks, and a heron too.

Sunshine and bunting.

Beautiful homewares and my pieces.

Top: cushions are made with vintage fabrics.
Below: cushions made with Lomas and Lomas designs.

I treated myself to this amazing pheasant cushion and the most gorgeous scented candle.

If you'd like to visit (and you really should) you can find them at:

Staying Cool

Manchester is having a heat-wave!  Or Summer as most people call it, tee hee.  Here are some ways to stay cool while the sun is shining.
  • Eat ice cream for main meals
  • Buy a cute paper fan (mine is from Oklahoma), or make one by folding paper in a concertina.
  • Run cool water over your wrists
  • Keep a reusable bottle or jug of water in the fridge.  Add some fresh mint for flavour (also try lemon, cucumber, berries, watermelon and edible flowers
  • Open a window.
  • Make coffee ice cubes for perfect iced lattes.
  • Get your tootsies out!  Wear some bright nail polish and cute sandals.
…and of course…wear sunscreen, drink water, look after your animals and be safe little magpies.

Lovely Levenshulme

Living in Manchester I'm spoilt for choice if I fancy nipping out for something tasty.   But I have a few favourite places that I return to time and time again.  Levenshulme has some gems...

Breakfast in the lovely Trove Bakery. We also took a loaf and some jam home with us (rhubarb and bay leaf).  It's almost impossible to leave without a loaf, I've never managed it yet.

Trove's avocado on toast.  The finest in Manchester!

 Pretty flowers at the door.

Just across the road from Trove is the Levensulme Antiques Village, a number of shops housed in the old Town Hall.  I was so very tempted by the beautiful books, old cameras, tiles, typesetting letters and little bottles.

I loved the name of this shop.

The little green gem is my treat from my visit. (Framed bee from The Manchester Bee Co. )

Just behind the railway station, hides the LevensulmeMarket.  They have themes each week and showcase crafts and food from small local suppliers.

Colourful macarons and matryoshkas.

Colourful chalk on the railway arches.

...and through the arches we go home with all our goodies.  See you soon Levenshulme!

A Walk Around Manchester

I love taking photos.  I use them like momentos of places I've been and people I've met, but I also love taking photos of my home city.  It's beautiful and I see new things everyday.  Most recently I've been documenting the more industrial aspects of home.  Suprisingly colourful and beautiful.    Here are a few snaps from some recent wanderings around my beautiful city.

A Little Round-up of My Week

It's been a busy week in my little corner of the world.  The Manchester Craft and Design Centre where my studio is has been preparing for a new exhibition along with events for Manchester After Hours and our annual Future Makers event.  Oh, and I got some new flowers for Studio 25, very important you know.

Island in the Sun

A couple of weeks ago I took a little trip with some friends to the beautiful island of Tenerife.  Black sandy beaches, green forests, volcanic mountains...and the most incredible sunsets.

Pretty cacti and blue skies at the Parque Nacional del Tiede

Rows of boats at a quiet town on the coast.

Black sand from the lava that makes up the island.

 The volcano Mount Tiede.

One of the many beautiful sunsets we saw.

Making Plans

Now it’s officially Spring (welcome, May blossoms) I feel a little kick to be more organised.  I love the immediacy of social media and use my blog, twitter, facebook and instagram accounts regularly, just not with any particular structure.

Starting this month I’m aiming to follow a proper plan along with my other regular posts.  Monday’s will be my news-y blog post day; Tuesdays is for indulging in instagram and generally looking a lots of photos, Wednesday for Work In Progress (the hashtag #wipwednesday is a lovely one to search as a lot of crafters tag their work); on Thursday’s I’ll be featuring new and favourite stock pieces and Friday’s will be a nice little round up of the weeks news for my blog.

If you have any tips on this, particularly for small business crafty types, I’d love to hear them.
