Lovely Levenshulme

Living in Manchester I'm spoilt for choice if I fancy nipping out for something tasty.   But I have a few favourite places that I return to time and time again.  Levenshulme has some gems...

Breakfast in the lovely Trove Bakery. We also took a loaf and some jam home with us (rhubarb and bay leaf).  It's almost impossible to leave without a loaf, I've never managed it yet.

Trove's avocado on toast.  The finest in Manchester!

 Pretty flowers at the door.

Just across the road from Trove is the Levensulme Antiques Village, a number of shops housed in the old Town Hall.  I was so very tempted by the beautiful books, old cameras, tiles, typesetting letters and little bottles.

I loved the name of this shop.

The little green gem is my treat from my visit. (Framed bee from The Manchester Bee Co. )

Just behind the railway station, hides the LevensulmeMarket.  They have themes each week and showcase crafts and food from small local suppliers.

Colourful macarons and matryoshkas.

Colourful chalk on the railway arches.

...and through the arches we go home with all our goodies.  See you soon Levenshulme!

A Walk Around Manchester

I love taking photos.  I use them like momentos of places I've been and people I've met, but I also love taking photos of my home city.  It's beautiful and I see new things everyday.  Most recently I've been documenting the more industrial aspects of home.  Suprisingly colourful and beautiful.    Here are a few snaps from some recent wanderings around my beautiful city.

A Little Round-up of My Week

It's been a busy week in my little corner of the world.  The Manchester Craft and Design Centre where my studio is has been preparing for a new exhibition along with events for Manchester After Hours and our annual Future Makers event.  Oh, and I got some new flowers for Studio 25, very important you know.

 Setting up the Mezmerised exhibition.

Beautiful tactile metalwork by Rosie Booth.

Island in the Sun

A couple of weeks ago I took a little trip with some friends to the beautiful island of Tenerife.  Black sandy beaches, green forests, volcanic mountains...and the most incredible sunsets.

Pretty cacti and blue skies at the Parque Nacional del Tiede

Rows of boats at a quiet town on the coast.

Black sand from the lava that makes up the island.

 The volcano Mount Tiede.

One of the many beautiful sunsets we saw.

Making Plans

Now it’s officially Spring (welcome, May blossoms) I feel a little kick to be more organised.  I love the immediacy of social media and use my blog, twitter, facebook and instagram accounts regularly, just not with any particular structure.

Starting this month I’m aiming to follow a proper plan along with my other regular posts.  Monday’s will be my news-y blog post day; Tuesdays is for indulging in instagram and generally looking a lots of photos, Wednesday for Work In Progress (the hashtag #wipwednesday is a lovely one to search as a lot of crafters tag their work); on Thursday’s I’ll be featuring new and favourite stock pieces and Friday’s will be a nice little round up of the weeks news for my blog.

If you have any tips on this, particularly for small business crafty types, I’d love to hear them.

Little Treats

I do love a bit of a potter around and a bit of a treat.  Small pleasures like taking photos on a sunny day, fresh flowers, and vintage books.  Here are some of my recent small pleasures.

Handmade tiny star planter and petite succulent to live in it.

Vintage Aquisitions

I'm a big fan of vintage things, and old things generally.  I love the way they were so beautifully made, how carefully kept.  I like to think of the people who used them, taking delight in collecting used objects together.
These are my September finds.

This beautiful teacup and saucer is so unusually shaped, and I love the simple berry motif.

I love these carefully curated postage stamp albums, particularly the birds and botanic pages.  I do wish I knew what the title said, or even what language it's in...

Two clear ink wells and a cobalt blue poison or medicine bottle.  The ink wells are mid-century and the poison bottle is Victorian.

These are not strictly vintage, though the collage does have vintage pieces, but they are so pretty that I had to show them off!  They were made for me and gifted to me by one of my favourite artists Alexandra Glew.  A lovely surprise in the post and I can't wait to frame them.

I'm such a lucky Rachel!

Famous Bunnies!

The very sweet Laura from Cardboard Cites wrote a lovely feature for her blog including my little bunnies.

Laura actually requested that the little golden brass bunnies were on silver chain, and as you know, I'm a fan of mixed metals.  I thought they looked great and I'm so glad she did too.

Please take a peek around her blog while you're over that way, she has some beautiful pieces and makes amazing mixed media collages. How very clever. ;)

Castlefield

I've had such a lovely time at my Castlefield fairs.  Thank you to all my lovely customers, friends and fellow stallholders who make them super duper lovely!  Looking forward to the future dates as I'll be a regular seller and will be trading each 1st Saturday of the month.:)

 Beautiful old keys.

I love flowers and pop them in old bottles as vases on my stall (and around my house).  Current favourites are anything yellow with lavender and rosemary added from my garden.

These cases have vintage brooches in during the day, and are good storage when packing at the end. ;)

Tatton Flower Show 2014

Tatton flower show is always a sunny day for me.  This is my third time visiting the show, and each time I've been inspired by the beauty of the gardens, and by the knowledge of the exhibitors.  However, this is the first time I've seen Monty Don!

 Planting for bees.

A ferris wheel where every other seat was filled with flowers.

Ah, clematis.

 Pretty little astrantia flowers.

 Yum, churros!

I made a beeswax candle at one of the stands.

 Beautiful chive flowers.

 Purple verbena.

Blue skies.

...and the man himself, the lovely Monty Don!

Victoria Baths

This month I had a table at one of the most beautiful buildings in Manchester, Victoria Baths.

There were some lovely stalls and people, and I was very lucky to have some super duper friends visit me too ;)  I'm hoping they'll have me back for the next one!

The last photo is courtesy of EmmyC as I was silly and didn't take a photo of my own table.  Ooops, thanks Em ;)
